Friends,
My bff, Robert Patrick (of CinemaSpartan), and I are working to put together a one-day festival of music, learning, and creativity in the Southern California area. We are temporarily calling this gathering "Summer School Fest" until we think of something more appealing.
In order to get this done, we are going to need a venue. We want to hold "SSF" sometime in August and are looking in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. If you have a recommendation of a place we could use, let me know. I have no idea how many people will end up coming, but we have a couple bands lined up that should each be able to draw small audiences so a living room would be pretty packed but an industrial warehouse might seem pretty empty.
We are also looking to add a few more bands to the lineup. Genre isn't important to us but plan on playing something the kids will like. We also want to find a few people to do presentations or lead discussions on a variety of topics before the bands go on. You would need to design your own material but the subject matter is basically up to you as long as our target demographic would probably find it interesting.
Finally, depending on the venue, we might want to provide some local artists with the opportunity to sell their work by putting it up on display during the festival.
So first and foremost, we need a venue. If you have a large house, yard, or other private building and live far enough from other homes that we won't get a noise complaint, we're thinking that type of setting would probably be best. We'd find a fair way for you to get a share of the money made from ticket sales, but overall, we won't be bringing in that much money because this isn't a profit-driven event. Otherwise, if anyone knows of a venue that wouldn't expect much of an income from an event like this, tell me.
And, whenever this happens, you're invited.

Basic Kitchen Rules: Keep it Clean, Keep it Sanitary
- when something explodes/overflows/splashes in the microwave, clean it up
- wash dishes in the left side of the sink so whatever's left on the plate can go down the garbage disposal and not get stuck in the drain
- when you put stuff down the garbage disposal drain, run the garbage disposal
- when you use a sponge, rinse it and squeeze it out
- don't put food in the trash (put it down the garbage disposal)

Stunner of the Month
I love sunglasses. I went through a time in my life when there was literally nothing I'd rather buy than a new pair of sunglasses. Not even food. Really. Unfortunately, my funds have decreased since then and I haven't bought a new pair in quite some time. The packrat store I have been saving is slowly dwindling as lenses get scratched, frames break, plastic pairs get sat on in the back seat of my car, and the choisest items in my collection get lifted by delinquent teenagers.
So naturally I am thrilled about this: http://stunnerofthemonth.com/gift.html
I love stunner shades and here is a way for me to get a new pair every month like a magical gift through the post! And for a pretty minimal amount of money! Unfortunately, at this juncture in my life, I don't even have a minimal amount of money to spare, so I guess I'll have to put this on the backburner until I'm actually getting paid to work. Or until someone else gets me a subscription (WINK WINK).

Rockstar wants me to quit playing and buy another game
A few days ago, I "finished" Red Dead Redemption. I got to the ending but still had to help a few strangers, collect some plants, play some poker, etc. One of the things I still needed to do was get some beavers for the Daedalus dude. Those suckers were hard to find, but, thanks to the guidance provided on internet message boards, I discovered some near the river to the north of Beecher's Hope.
I was pretty excited because I had spent maybe two hours already looking for them and had ended up wandering around in the snowy parts of Tall Trees. It was there that I stumbled upon some sort of super spawning area. Initially, I saw some wolves near the path in the distance so I shot them to prevent an attack. As I was shooting them, however, more wolves were spawning in the trees nearby so there was literally an endless number of them. I rode past and got to a cabin near a river where I thought I'd look for some beavers. Unfortunately, the wolves kept spawning and attacking me and my horse, no matter how many I killed. I ran into the cabin but ended up being killed when a wolf leapt through the open door.
So, whatevs. There's a lot of wolves up there. Later, however, when I found the beavers, there was a rapid and endless spawning of cougars nearby and I ended up being killed and losing all the pelts I had collected. I was pretty livid.
Has the game gotten harder since its official end or am I just somehow stumbling across more rediculously active spawning areas? I don't remember any place where animals spawned so quickly before I "finished" the game. Now that I'm going around tying up loose ends, it seems like every time my horse is going too slowly or I'm on the ground for more than a few seconds in the wilderness, something attacks. And if I'm quick enough to kill it, three more animals spawn in its place.
Yesterday, I was trying to save someone from a wolf attack when a bear attacked me. Really, how many animals are in this game? At this rate, they'll be overrunning the towns in a week. Because I'm constantly paranoid about being attacked and can't get much done before being killed by a pack of twenty cougars, the game really isn't much fun to play anymore. Is this Rockstar's way of getting me to give up and buy another game?
