Does Anybody Have $115 To Lend Me?

List of Things I Want In the First House I Rent

- A backyard that has room for my dog(s) to do their business

- A front porch/patio area on which I can put an old couch for late night sitting

- Preferably more than one bathroom, especially depending on my number of roommates, but at least one bathroom that is not connected to a bedroom.

- Off-street parking

- Nearby markets/cafes/bars that are withing walking distance. I miss having that.

Life Changes

A few things I want to try for the next few months:

  1. Using the phrase "let me think about it" instead of feeling like I'm being put on the spot and need to answer immediately when someone asks me something. I think this will cut down on the awkward excuses I always have to make when it turns out I don't want to/can't do something I already agreed to. Additionally, I won't feel so pressured to give someone a certain answer just to please them when I'm face-to-face with them.
  2. Tell people "no" and be confident about it. I always feel like my reasons for not doing things sound like pathetic excuses, but really I need to remember my main priority (my thesis) and not feel embarrassed or lame when I tell people I need to work on it.
  3. Stop making excuses. I'm just going to be upfront about things. If I don't want to go out because I'm tired, I'll tell people I'm tired. Or that I feel awkward. Or that I'd rather just do my own thing. Who are they to argue??
  4. Actually make the attempt to socialize with more people. Basically since I've been in college, I've been letting a lot of friendships slip away and I want to stop or reverse that. I want to be more open to just going out and talking with people. I'm just going to be myself and not have any expectations. If I don't like hanging out with someone, I won't do it again, but I want to be more positive about socializing and better manage my friendships.

First Annual Summer School Fest

Friends,
My bff, Robert Patrick (of CinemaSpartan), and I are working to put together a one-day festival of music, learning, and creativity in the Southern California area. We are temporarily calling this gathering "Summer School Fest" until we think of something more appealing.

In order to get this done, we are going to need a venue. We want to hold "SSF" sometime in August and are looking in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. If you have a recommendation of a place we could use, let me know. I have no idea how many people will end up coming, but we have a couple bands lined up that should each be able to draw small audiences so a living room would be pretty packed but an industrial warehouse might seem pretty empty.

We are also looking to add a few more bands to the lineup. Genre isn't important to us but plan on playing something the kids will like. We also want to find a few people to do presentations or lead discussions on a variety of topics before the bands go on. You would need to design your own material but the subject matter is basically up to you as long as our target demographic would probably find it interesting.

Finally, depending on the venue, we might want to provide some local artists with the opportunity to sell their work by putting it up on display during the festival.

So first and foremost, we need a venue. If you have a large house, yard, or other private building and live far enough from other homes that we won't get a noise complaint, we're thinking that type of setting would probably be best. We'd find a fair way for you to get a share of the money made from ticket sales, but overall, we won't be bringing in that much money because this isn't a profit-driven event. Otherwise, if anyone knows of a venue that wouldn't expect much of an income from an event like this, tell me.

And, whenever this happens, you're invited.
